KNOWLEDGE BASE

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR JEWELLERY?

  • Always store your jewellery in its own box or pouch to prevent scratching, chipping and entanglement.
  • Always store your jewellery in a dry place away from humidity, moisture and extreme temperatures.
  • Mild rubbing with a silver cleaning cloth will help restore the original brilliance of the jewellery’s surface.
  • Never use liquid cleaners for any jewellery as the liquid dries into the engraving.
  • Never use detergent, soap, toothpaste etc to clean your jewellery.
  • Wearing of jewellery for significant periods of time results in the plating eventually wearing down. To restore its appearance, you can have it re-plated.
  • Always remove your Jewellery when washing up or showering, as soap particles may become lodged in stone settings and crevices. Soaps can also leave a film over metal and stones, creating a dull appearance.
  • Always ensure that your jewellery is not in regular contact with hard surfaces, which will scratch or wear down the plating or enamelling.
  • When dressing, jewellery should always be put on last as make up, cosmetics and perfumes can cause damage to delicate items.

BIS HALLMARK

It’s a hallmarking system for Gold as well as Silver Jewellery sold in India, certifying to the purity of the metal and confirmation to a set of standards laid by the Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Organization of India.

In India, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the accreditation agency which certifies and hallmarks gold jewellery and other precious metals. A hallmark consists of carat, stamp of BIS, year of mark and jeweller’s identification mark.

Assaying & Hallmark Center

The testing of the jewellery as well as the marking is done in approved Assaying & Hallmarking Centres across the nation. These are private undertakings approved as well as monitored by the BIS
